Synergies between universal health coverage, health security and health promotion

Camilla Stoltenberg and Trygve Ottersen, two directors at the Norwegian Institute of Public Health, are members of The Lancet Commission on synergies between universal health coverage, health security and health promotion.

The newly appointed Commission is organised in collaboration between the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, the University of Heidelberg and the Norwegian Institute of Public Health.

The Commission will look at the intersections between three leading agendas in global health that coincide with the World Health Organization's new general programme of work; universal health coverage, health security and promoting healthier populations.

Their aim is to describe synergies and tensions in achieving the goals, including looking at interventions and policies within each agenda.

Other members of the commission include David Heymann, world-leading infectious diseases expert, and Japan's former health minister, Yasuhisa Shiozaki. The Commission will convene for its final meeting in Oslo in 2019.
