Target group: We invite scientists, clinicians and students who work with global health issues. This includes students and clinicians from other countries who are temporarily located in Norway. All are welcome.
The aim of the conference is to create a scientific and clinical arena for discussion of global health issues. We will improve the standards of this type of work and improve co-operation and networking between persons and institutions who are engaged in these topics.
The UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report was launched earlier this winter. Human activity is changing the climate in unprecedented and sometimes irreversible ways. The landmark study warns of increasingly extreme heatwaves, droughts and flooding, and a key temperature limit being broken in just over a decade. The report "is a code red for humanity", says the UN chief. But scientists say a catastrophe can be avoided if the world acts fast.
This will be a main topic in the discussions at this conference, with Norwegian and international presenters.
Some confirmed speakers and topics:
- "Climate change and health, a global perspective" by Prof. Tord Kjellstrøm, Director of the research consultancy Health and Environment International Trust in Nelson, New Zealand
- "Productivity and safety in a warming world?” by Prof. George Havenith, Director of the Environmental Ergonomics Research Centre, Loughborough University
- "Health risks and health effects of firefighter work" by Senior Scientist Hilde Færevik, PhD, SINTEF Digital and the Gemini Center
- "Arctic occupational health in the changing climate" by Prof. Tiina Ikahaimo, University of Oulu and UiT - The Arctic University of Norway
